How do we define a luxury wedding? What separates a luxury wedding from a more common one? Does a luxury wedding need to be completely decadent and pretentious? What are the key components that define luxury?
My name is Lisi Korn, I specialize in planning luxury celebrations for high-profile clients including celebrities, sports personalities, and high-end business people. Luxury can mean many things to different people, but in my eye, I view it as an experience.
Luxury is more like an emotion; it is the sum-total of an experience that leaves you with a wonderful feeling. Like dining in a fine restaurant, creating a luxury wedding is all about the ambiance, having a wonderful experience. Furthermore, I want our clients to have a wonderful experience not just on their wedding day, but through every step of the planning process and with everyone else they meet throughout it.
There are often a number of events, not just the wedding itself. My clients know how to celebrate and often spread the events over a couple of days, whether it’s a pre-wedding party, brunch following the wedding, or taking all the guests away for a wedding weekend. It’s most often a series of events, all of which need to be planned in tune with one another, all down to the finest detail.
Food and wine are key. My clients often eat at the best restaurants and enjoy the finest wine, often time having their own wine collections and cellars. They know their cuisine and have exacting standards; people remember bad food and wine at a wedding, even more so at a luxury wedding.
Attention to detail is paramount when designing a luxury wedding. It could be anything; such as a specific tablecloth or napkin that a client wants, or imported china for the table setting because it has some special significance to them.
Clients expect a lot from a luxury wedding, and as they should. However, it is important to be realistic and manage expectations from the start. My running orders can be pages long, reflecting the extreme attention to detail and planning that each event requires. Additionally, most of my clients have specific confidentiality and privacy needs, so it is important that I and my team create an event that protects their privacy requirements. In some weddings, that can mean having a strict social media policy and/or phone confiscation.
